Privacy policy

Close, Inc. (“Close”) provides bookkeeping, tax advisory, and tax filing services. This policy explains how Close handles personal information through close.tax, our client workspace, and our service delivery. Your engagement agreement describes the services we provide to your business.

Information we collect

We collect information you provide, such as your name, email address, business details, account information, messages, and documents. Depending on your engagement, financial records may include transactions, balances, invoices, bills, receipts, customer and vendor details, and tax-related records. Please provide only information you are authorized to share.

We also process technical information needed to operate and protect the service, including session cookies, device and browser information, IP addresses, and sign-in and account-security events.

Connected financial accounts

When you authorize a supported financial connection, we receive information from that provider within the permissions you grant. For a QuickBooks Online connection, this may include company information, chart of accounts, transactions, contacts, and accounting reports. Connection credentials are used to access the authorized service; you should never send us your QuickBooks password.

You can revoke a connection through the provider’s connected-app settings or contact Close for help. Revoking access stops future access through that authorization. It does not automatically delete records already received or end your engagement.

How we use information

We use information to deliver and coordinate your accounting services, organize and review records, communicate with you, operate your account, respond to requests, prevent misuse, maintain an audit trail, and meet applicable legal and recordkeeping obligations.

Service providers and AI assistance

We use providers for hosting, database storage, authentication, email delivery, and authorized financial connections. Relevant information is processed by those providers to support these functions. When AI assistance is used, relevant transaction or document information may be processed through Anthropic’s API to support the accounting team. Close remains responsible for reviewing and delivering the work; AI assistance does not replace the team’s accountability.

Information may also be shared with people you authorize, advisers involved in your engagement where appropriate, or authorities when legally required. In a business acquisition or reorganization, information may transfer subject to applicable confidentiality and privacy obligations. We do not sell personal information or use connected financial records for advertising.

Cookies and security

We use cookies and similar storage for sign-in, session security, and preferences. Blocking necessary cookies may prevent the workspace from functioning. Access controls limit client information according to organization membership and role. No system can guarantee absolute security; contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access, without including passwords, authenticator secrets, or recovery codes.

Retention and deletion

We retain information as needed for the engagement, service operation, dispute resolution, and applicable accounting, tax, and legal recordkeeping obligations. Retention depends on the record and circumstances. Deletion requests may be limited by those obligations, security records, and backup retention. We will explain applicable limitations when responding to a request.

Your requests and choices

Contact anaiy@close.tax to request access, correction, export, or deletion of your information, or to ask about its use. Depending on where you live and the applicable law, you may have additional rights to restrict or object to processing or complain to a privacy authority. We may need to verify your identity and authority before acting on a request. Do not attach sensitive financial records to an initial email; we can arrange an appropriate way to share them.

International processing and intended users

Close and its service providers may process information in countries other than your own, where privacy laws may differ. The service is intended for business users and is not directed to children.

Changes and contact
